Professor David M. Boje giving a presentation at the storytelling seminar

Researchers discussed organizational storytelling

May 8-9, Department of Business and Management had the pleasure of hosting an international research seminar on organizational storytelling with participation of David M. Boje.

A Discourse Activist Perspective

It was an interdisciplinary research seminar on the topic “a discourse activist perspective on organizational storytelling”, which was organized on the occasion of renowned storytelling scholar David Boje’s visit to Aalborg University.  The participants discussed storytelling from its potential to foster organizational reflexivity, action and change in organizations. Narratives, stories, discourse, power, politics, materiality and ethics came together to form perspectives on sustainability and authentic “true” stories and how these can inform our activities in reshaping organizational realities, identities and structures.

Prime focus and ethical scope

The center of attention was how discourse scholars can oscillate between diverse discursive organizational levels spanning from local here-and-now situations to broader organizational, political and societal spheres. The ethical scope was to challenge organizational crystallized ways of saying and doing things together with the socio material and political practices that such activities are embedded in.

International and interdisciplinary seminar

The seminar had participation of scholars from US, Finland, Sweden and Denmark as wells people from organization and strategy, international business, business economics, tourism research, communication, planning and culture and global studies. At the seminar there were presentations from:
